The Economy is in the Toilet

I now am starting to understand what everyone is talking about. After seeing my current stock portfolio (or better stated – lack thereof), I now fully understand what all the newspapers have been plastering across the front pages. It’s sad that it takes me losing most of my tuition money for all of the recession statements to truly hit me.

Losing my money is horrible but the thing that is worrying me the most right now is the issue of finding a job. After sitting for months after May, watching some of the most creative and innovative graduate students that I know have to move back in with their parents while frantically looking for job is frightening. Trolling the street looking for a job is difficult enough but then what happens if or when we get jobs? Advertising is not known for their stellar entry-level position salaries.

So with talk of graduation in May and the impending job search, there is some sleep that is lost. This industry of ours, it’s hard to break in to. Networking, family friends, saving of business cards, those are the ways that most agencies hire. Is pounding the pavement enough? Does it extend to having to straddle the line between following and stalking?

Searching for ad jobs is hard enough but with this economy? It truly is becoming survival of the fittest.
