I personally adore this shift. I can say whatever I want with my Facebook page, be my own marketer. I can adjust the template of my blog to whichever look suits how I feel at that point in time. Twitter captures my hour to hour attitude and behavior shifts.
However, this personalization need has extended even farther to the glorious entity of Google. I love it when I have the option to ditch my boring, white space email interface for an updated, snazzy design that is determined by me. iGoogle has been this way for some time but now it has extended to Google’s general accounts on Gmail.
We have moved from expressing ourselves by solely our hairstyles or wardrobe. Now, we want to show who we are and how we feel even with something that only we have access to. Either way, I, along with everyone else, want to see myself in everything I do. And yes, I am that conceited… and it looks like I’m not alone in that desire.
What haven’t we personalized? Stamps, M&Ms, credit cards. Name something we haven’t adjusted to individuals’ need to break out of the boring, common box. What do your Post-its say about you?
