Politics goes to the dogs

Fledging economy? International relations? Tax breaks? World peace? These are the things that are at citizens’ top of mind in terms of pressing matters for our new president, right? Sadly enough, no.

Apparently the US population is primarily concerned with what canine is going to occupy the dog house on the White House lawn. After Obama announced in speeches that his daughters earned a puppy, the buzz started. What breed? What will the size be of the lucky, chosen dog? What kind of dog is fit to represent our country? Come on, where are our priorities?

However, it does provide more insight in how Obama has broken through our tough exteriors to make us care when we usually do everything to avoid anything that has to do with the President. Now, there has been a call for action to find the perfect Obama dog that Obama didn’t even generate.

From a blog on Petfinder.com to the Today’s show puppy vote, people are expressing a large amount of interest in the personal happenings of the man in charge. Even as a dog person myself, I would say that if we cared about our international relations even an eighth of the amount that we care about what breed of dog the Obamas are going to get, our country would have a lot more things for which to be thankful.
