Easily distracted by shiny things

New data from Nielsen shows just how splintered our attention has become.

The average time for a site visit in March of 2009 was 56 seconds. Meaning that in order to be effective and efficient, the majority of a website's content must be understood in less than a minute. Maybe this is why most websites look the same - 'if it ain't broke...' mentality.

With this research, one has to wonder if any of this material ever gets read or watched. Which makes me wonder why Google didn't reduce the Wave introduction video. Although, even surprising myself, I watched for around half an hour.

I guess it goes to show, make it interesting enough and you will have out undivided attention. Now, it just comes down to creating an original and captivating idea.
